03/10/2011 - 2/12/2013 - Baras Dimitris
The thought was begun by the two founders, Dimitris and Chris, where they saw what was happening with the destruction of the biodiversity and the absence of an NGO to observate and record of all species and not just certain species.
At first they spoke to their friends who knew they might be interested in participating. Unfortunately, the first attempt failed because some people wanted to help only if there were fundings from the state and the EU, and the refusal of some people to sign. Dimitris and Chris defined new conditions and goals, and changed some things so they can avoid the next try to fail.
So the second attempt was successful, where the name of the organization was also defined. The name emerged from what it was it's purpose and not to show an official organization of the state..
The basic idea behind the creation of the Hellenic Biodiversity Center was to be able to involve citizens and not only scientists from their area and gather all the information-data under the umbrella of the HBC.
The HBC was not created to replace an NGO or other entity. But to use new techniques of observation / recording of species of biodiversity in Greece and to fill gaps, i.e. the observation of butterflies.
